Sealants
and Fluoride
When it comes to the care of your child's
teeth, San Pablo Dental Care believes in a two-part system
of prevention, with the goal of stopping tooth decay before
it ever starts.
Sealants
All teeth have tiny crevices, sometimes invisible
to the naked eye. Despite their small size, these crevices
can provide a home for bacteria. If too many bacteria are
allowed to accumulate, tooth decay will result.
A sealant is an invisible
liquid applied to the tooth surface. It harmlessly fills in
the many crevices, removing them as homes for bacteria. San
Pablo Dental Care recommends that sealants be applied to your
child's teeth starting around age five to six.
Fluoride
Fluoride is a naturally occurring
element that strengthens tooth enamel. In most areas of the
country, the fluoride added to drinking water provides enough
fluoride for most adults. Children, however, have developing
teeth, and need extra fluoride. For this reason, our doctors
recommend fluoride application for young patients. This ensures
that your child's teeth grow strong and healthy. A gel is
comfortably placed in a small tray that fits over the child's
teeth and is left on for about five minutes.
Good dental health starts at an early age.
San Pablo Dental Care recommends that children start learning
proper dental habits around age 2-3, to ensure a lifetime
of teeth which look and feel great.
