Periodontics
Good periodontal health
begins with preventative maintenance that helps stop gum disease
before it has a chance to start. Fortunately, most periodontal
care is easy, non-surgical care that can be done in the convenience
of your own home.
Maintenance - Home Care
Our skilled doctors will show you how
to brush and floss so as to minimize plaque and tartar build-up.
Plaque and tartar can infect your mouth both above and below
the gum line; this is what causes gum disease. By brushing,
flossing, and using special mouthwashes and rinses, you can
prevent most gum problems from ever taking hold.
However, sometimes gum disease can still
occur. Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, increase
a person's susceptibility to gum disease. If your gums do
become infected, there are non- surgical options available
from One of our excellent doctors & Associates.
Non-Surgical Management
Root planing and scaling are non-surgical
procedures that clean bacteria and tartar from the root of
the tooth, and smooth the root surface so bacteria cannot
re-adhere to it. Once free of infection, healthy gum tissue
will be regenerated.
Surgical Management
Occasionally, periodontal disease will
result in damage to the support structures, bone and gums,
that may require surgical follow-up care.
